6.1) How do I find a car park?
Step 1: Open ‘Find a place’
- Click ‘Find nearest car park’.
Step 2: Select the kind of location the car park is near
- Select the kind of location you want to type in (e.g. ‘Town/district/village’, ‘Address/postcode’, ‘Facility/attraction’ …etc)
- Type the location name in the box.
Step 3: Click "Next"
Step 4: Confirm your location
Once you have clicked ‘Next’, if the Journey Planner is not able to find an exact match for the location you typed in, a drop-down list (highlighted in yellow) will show you one or more similar matches for that location.
Depending on the information you entered, you will need to do one of the following:
- Select a location option from the drop-down list.
OR
- Select a location option from the drop-down list and search for the location as a different kind of location (e.g. “Address/postcode”)
OR
- Click ‘Back’ and enter a new location.
Once your information is confirmed, car parks near to that location will be listed on the page. You can click ‘Show map’ to see a map with the car park(s) on it.
Step 5: If you would like to plan a journey once you find the car park you are looking for, make sure it is selected and click ‘Drive from’ or ‘Drive to’.
6.2) How can I find out about Park and Ride schemes?
To find out about Park and Ride schemes, click the link on the "Find a car route" page. This will take you to a page containing information and web links for Park and Ride schemes across Britain.
6.3) How can I plan a Park and Ride journey?
There are two ways to plan a park and ride journey:
- If you access the Park and Ride schemes page from the Find a car route input page, you can select ‘Drive to’ for the scheme you want to use
- You can select ‘Plan to Park and Ride’ from the ‘Plan a journey’ page. This will open an input page that allows you to select a Park and Ride scheme from a drop-down list
For both options you can enter all other information as for a normal car journey plan. This includes advanced options such as maximum speed, fuel consumption, roads to use or avoid etc.
If there is more than one car park in the scheme you are travelling to, the Journey Planner will plan to the car park that gives you the ‘best’ car journey. This will be quickest journey unless you have selected a different advanced option, for example shortest or most fuel economic journey.
